Uttar Pradesh Government Denies Misleading Information on Minimum Wage

New Delhi, April 14: The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a press note clarifying that misleading and false information is being circulated on various social media platforms. Reports claim that the minimum wage for workers has been set at ₹20,000 per month, which employers are allegedly failing to comply with.

The reality is that the Government of India is in the process of establishing a national minimum floor wage under the new labor codes. This initiative aims to ensure a uniform baseline for minimum wages across the country, providing fair and just remuneration for workers in all states.

The state government is actively engaging in extensive consultations with all stakeholders, including employer and labor organizations. Suggestions and objections received are being carefully examined to arrive at a balanced and practical decision.

Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government announced new minimum wage rates. Unskilled workers will receive ₹11,313.65 per month, with a daily wage of ₹435.14. For semi-skilled workers, the monthly wage is set at ₹12,446, and the daily wage at ₹478.69. Skilled workers will earn ₹13,940.37 per month, translating to a daily wage of ₹536.16. The regulations under the new labor codes are currently in the process of being promulgated.

The government stated that the industrial sector is facing global and economic challenges. The costs of raw materials have risen, and there has been a decline in exports. Additionally, the issues raised by workers and their demands are relevant, significant, and worthy of consideration. In such circumstances, it is crucial to adopt a harmonious and balanced approach between industry and labor.

It is noteworthy that provisions related to wages and salaries, as well as those concerning minimum wages under the new wage code, are designed to protect the interests of workers. The government is committed to ensuring full compliance with these legal provisions. After listening to all parties, it plans to implement an interim increase in the minimum wage based on the recommendations of the wage board to be formed next month.

The Uttar Pradesh government has made it clear that the misleading information circulating on social media is entirely unfounded. The Chief Minister has appealed to the public to trust only information from official sources. The Uttar Pradesh government is dedicated to maintaining a balance between worker welfare and industrial development while continuously taking necessary actions under the new labor laws.

The Chief Minister has also urged employer organizations to ensure that workers receive their salaries, overtime pay, weekly holidays, bonuses, and all social security rights in accordance with the law. Additionally, the safety and respect of female workers at the workplace must be guaranteed.

Furthermore, the government has strongly condemned the disruptive and external elements involved in illegal activities, instructing strict action against such individuals.
