Ukrainian women in Delhi raise objection to Lavrov’s visit to India

New Delhi, April 1 : A group of Ukrainian women on Friday gathered in the national capital and appealed to India to support the war-hit country through humanitarian aid and cease all business with Russia. The group unfurled the Ukrainian flag at Lodhi Garden in a gesture to show solidarity with their native country. All the women are settled in India, scattered across NCR towns, gathered to oppose the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to India. Maryna who is settled in Ghaziabad after her marriage to an Indian man said citing media reports that the war has killed more than 150 children while over 200 have been left severely injured. “We are troubled and restless. While we are living in peace here, our relatives are suffering in Ukraine,” she added. “If India continues to do business with the aggressor Russia, then she will be funding our destruction,” she added further. Meanwhile, Elina who has also married an Indian man and lives in Delhi, said that Indian people should not fall for the Russian “propaganda” about liberating Ukraine. “The Russian soldiers are killing people for fun. They are attacking green corridors. Many of the children have died and other war crimes continue to happen. Russia is projecting its invasion of Ukraine as a war against Nazis. This is just propaganda. We are not Nazis and we don’t belong to Russia. Indians should not fall for this propaganda,” she appealed. Elina also said that historically, the character of India and Ukraine is similar as both countries have never invaded other nations. She said that India should support a country that shares the same ideology of peace. “Just like India, our country has never been an aggressor. Under the propaganda of similar culture and language, Russia is snatching away the territorial integrity and human rights of Ukraine while the world is watching. India should step ahead and act in the name of humanity,” Elina added. JA SHK2134
