New Delhi, March 25: Tensions are escalating in the Middle East due to attacks from Iran and the US-Israel alliance. In this context, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is calling for clarity from its allies rather than relying solely on military support to confront Iran.
Anwar Gargash, an advisor to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasized that the current situation demands more information about which allies can be trusted in challenging times, rather than an influx of weapons and troops.
In a post on the social media platform X, Gargash remarked, “Since the Iranian attacks began, friends and allied nations have continued to communicate, distinguishing between those who have offered genuine support and those who have merely issued statements without action.”
He stated, “The UAE has proven its ability to withstand and endure. However, it requires clarity regarding support beyond just arms and soldiers.”
In a previous post, Gargash questioned, “Where are the Arab and Islamic labor institutions, particularly the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation?”
Former Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani stressed that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries must be included in any US-Iran negotiations, warning that the region’s future cannot be shaped without their involvement.
In light of controversial reports about US-Iran discussions, which Tehran has denied, Al Thani stated, “GCC countries cannot be absent from any table where the future of the region is being outlined.”
He further asserted that the Strait of Hormuz should remain “open under any circumstances, without conditions or restrictions,” warning that any unilateral control or attempts to exploit it would pose a direct threat not only to GCC nations but also to the global economy.
