Jamui, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, TS Singh Deo, has expressed deep concern over a recent incident of harassment involving a young girl in Jamui, Bihar, as well as an attack on a convoy of Congress leaders in Assam. He stressed that ensuring women’s safety and dignity is a crucial responsibility of the government, and that strict action should be taken against any offender, regardless of their political affiliation.
Commenting on the Jamui incident, Singh Deo described the act as not only illegal but also a violation of a woman’s dignity. He pointed out that the key question in such cases should be whether action will be taken against the perpetrator. He insisted that the law must be applied equally to all, and that a suspect’s political identity should not hinder legal proceedings.
Singh Deo linked this incident to broader administrative concerns, questioning the areas where such incidents are occurring and whether they are confined to specific regions. He emphasized the need to understand the underlying causes of these events. According to him, if the administration does not maintain a strong presence in communities to prevent such occurrences, it raises serious concerns.
He further stated that safeguarding women’s safety, respect, and political participation is also the government’s duty. He asked what could be a greater failure of governance than the inability to protect women’s honor.
Singh Deo also condemned the stone-pelting incident on the Congress convoy in Assam, which included state president Gaurav Gogoi. He remarked that allowing such attacks on leaders’ convoys could lead politics down a dangerous path and increase the risk of violence.
He urged all parties to maintain peace and participate in the democratic process peacefully. Singh Deo asserted that political differences should be resolved democratically, leaving no room for violence.
In a lighter note, he congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for winning a gold medal at the Asian Games. He praised the team’s performance, highlighting the young player’s century, the new left-arm spinner’s contributions, and the overall improvement in the team’s fielding. He noted that the team displayed excellent balance and rhythm throughout the tournament.
