Washington, May 3: U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he has been briefed on a potential agreement framework with Iran, but he is awaiting the final wording before making any decisions. He also warned that if Tehran engages in “misbehavior,” military action remains a viable option.
Before heading to Miami, Trump responded to reporters’ questions in Florida, saying, “They have informed me about the concept of the deal. Now they will provide me with the exact wording.”
His comments come amid rising tensions in the region, with diplomatic efforts in a fragile state. The U.S. appears ready for talks while simultaneously maintaining pressure. Trump reiterated that the possibility of resuming attacks against Iran cannot be ruled out.
According to a senior Iranian official, Tehran has proposed a plan that could lead to the resumption of shipping through the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, potentially ending what Iran describes as a U.S. “blockade.” However, discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program have been postponed, which Trump has currently rejected.
Meanwhile, Trump wrote on the platform Truth Social, “I will soon review the plan that Iran has sent us, but I don’t think it will be acceptable, as they have yet to pay a sufficient price for what they have done to humanity and the world over the past 47 years.”
On the diplomatic front, Iran has increased its activity. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi addressed foreign diplomats in Tehran, announcing a new initiative to reduce tensions with the U.S. and Israel.
Iranian officials indicated that this proposal was sent through Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator in indirect talks between Tehran and Washington. During the briefing, Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran is committed to diplomacy based on its national interests but is fully prepared to respond to any military escalation.
He described the proposal as an attempt to bring a “permanent end” to “imposed hostility” and stated that it is now up to the U.S. to decide whether to continue confrontation or choose the path of meaningful dialogue.
