Trump Meets Xi Jinping Before Departure to the U.S., Discusses Bilateral Relations

Beijing, May 15: Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held a private meeting on Friday at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing. This meeting occurred just before Trump concluded his visit to China. The day prior, both leaders engaged in formal discussions.

According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, Xi warmly welcomed Trump upon his arrival at Zhongnanhai. The two leaders were seen walking together in the compound’s gardens, engaging in conversation while admiring the trees and flowers.

Xi emphasized that Trump’s visit was “historic and a milestone.” He stated that both nations have charted a new direction for constructive China-U.S. relations based on strategic stability.

The Chinese President noted that significant agreements were reached to maintain stable economic and trade relations, enhance practical cooperation across various sectors, and address each other’s concerns appropriately.

He also mentioned that both countries agreed to strengthen dialogue and coordination on international and regional issues. According to Xi, this visit is aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and trust, benefiting the peoples of both nations.

Xi asserted that the world expects China and the U.S. to pursue peaceful coexistence and cooperation based on mutual respect. While Trump speaks of making “America great again,” Xi is focused on the national rejuvenation of the Chinese people.

Xi stressed the importance of maintaining the positive momentum in their relationship and moving it in a stable direction.

Meanwhile, Trump expressed gratitude for the invitation to Zhongnanhai, describing his visit to China as highly successful and one that garnered global attention.

He noted that several important agreements were made, numerous deals were signed, and many issues were resolved, all of which are beneficial for both countries and the world.

Referring to Xi as his “old friend,” Trump expressed deep respect for him and highlighted the strong relationship that has developed between the two leaders. He stated that U.S.-China relations are extremely important and will improve in the future.

Trump expressed his desire to continue honest and in-depth dialogue with Xi and invited him to visit Washington.

During their discussions, both leaders exchanged views on various regional and global issues. Following this meeting, President Donald Trump departed from Beijing, concluding his visit to China.
