Washington, February 28: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the commencement of “major military operations” in Iran. He urged Iranian security forces to “lay down your arms and receive full safety, or face death.” He also addressed the Iranian public, stating, “The time for your freedom has come.”
Trump warned citizens to remain indoors, saying, “Stay safe. Do not go outside. There is great danger. Bombs could fall everywhere.”
He claimed that the U.S. military had recently conducted extensive military operations in Iran, aimed at ensuring the safety of American citizens and eliminating immediate threats from Iranians. Trump accused Iran of posing a threat to the U.S. and its allies.
The President stated that the Iranian regime has symbolized hostility towards America for 47 years. He referenced the 1979 takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran and the 1983 bombing of Marine barracks in Beirut. Trump labeled Iran as the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism, asserting that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons.
He mentioned the “Operation Midnight Hammer” conducted in June, claiming that Iran’s nuclear programs in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan were destroyed. He stated that Iran has rejected every opportunity to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
In announcing the new offensive, Trump said, “The U.S. military has launched a massive campaign to prevent this tyrannical and radical regime from becoming a threat to America and our national security. We will completely destroy their missile and naval industries.”
He acknowledged the dangers of war, admitting that brave American soldiers may lose their lives and some may be injured. This is a common occurrence in warfare.
This military action is considered one of the largest U.S. military operations in decades in the Middle East.
India has a long-standing cultural relationship with Iran, and its strategic partnership with the U.S. is also growing. Any prolonged conflict could impact energy supplies, regional stability, and the safety of millions of Indians living in the Middle East.
