Beijing, May 15: Today marks the final day of U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China. During this trip, he met with President Xi Jinping. The two leaders engaged in serious discussions on various topics, including technology and trade. Trump stated on Friday that their meeting in Beijing resulted in a “fantastic trade deal.”
Trump is set to return to the U.S. today. Before his departure for Washington, both leaders held a bilateral meeting and lunch at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in Beijing. They were seen strolling in the garden and enjoying tea together.
Describing the trip as incredible, Trump remarked, “A lot of good has come from this. The U.S. and China share similar views on Iran, and both want to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.”
He added, “Our thinking on Iran aligns. Both countries support restoring shipping access through this strategic maritime route, which typically accounts for about 20% of the world’s oil supply.”
Trump also mentioned that Xi is expected to visit the U.S. in September. He stated, “The relationship is very strong, and we have genuinely accomplished some great things.”
Earlier, the two leaders had a closed-door meeting lasting over two hours on Thursday, where they discussed trade, Iran, and Taiwan. Trump later described the discussions as excellent.
Speaking to Fox News after the meeting, the U.S. President claimed that Xi told him China would not provide military equipment to Iran. Trump called this a significant statement and noted that Xi expressed a desire to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed due to ongoing tensions related to Iran. China remains Iran’s largest oil buyer.
