Bhopal, March 22: A 17-year-old boy from Bhikupura village in the Udaynagar police station area of Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district tragically took his own life on Saturday by consuming pesticides. This heartbreaking decision came after he allegedly witnessed his mother being sexually assaulted by Sunil Malviya. The accused has since been arrested.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, leading to violent protests, road blockades, and attacks on the assailant’s property. Serious allegations of police inaction have emerged in the wake of this tragedy.
According to police officials, family statements, and local reports, the assault had occurred earlier, prompting the victim’s mother and relatives to file a complaint at the Udaynagar police station on Friday night. However, immediate action was reportedly delayed due to the unavailability of a female police officer, which is required for sensitive cases.
The family and villagers expressed deep frustration over this delay, believing it exacerbated the boy’s suffering. In a state of despair, the teenager consumed pesticides on Saturday morning. He was rushed to Bagli Hospital but succumbed to the poison before reaching the facility.
In response to the boy’s death and the alleged negligence of the police, family members and villagers placed his body on the Punjpura-Bagli road, blocking traffic and chanting slogans against the police. The crowd then targeted Sunil Malviya’s home, throwing stones, vandalizing property, and attempting to set his motorcycle on fire.
Police intervened to prevent further escalation. Villagers demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the demolition of his house with a bulldozer. Tensions rose as clashes broke out between the crowd and police officials.
A heavy police presence was deployed to restore order. Senior officers, including ASP (Traffic) Harnarayana Batham, Bagli SDOP Sanjay Singh Bais, and Udaynagar TI CL Raikwar, arrived at the scene to calm the situation. They clarified that the case involved sexual assault against a woman. When the family arrived at the police station the previous night, no female officer of the required rank was present, prompting the call for a female officer from Bagli.
By the time the officer returned to the station, the boy had already consumed the pesticide. He was taken for treatment, but tragically, he passed away before reaching the hospital.
