
Beijing, May 8: A devastating explosion occurred on May 4 at 4:43 PM at the Huashang Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Limited Company in the city of Liuyang, located in Hunan Province, southern China.
According to reports from local authorities, as of noon on May 8, the incident has resulted in 37 confirmed fatalities, with one person still missing. Additionally, 51 individuals are receiving medical treatment, five of whom are in serious but stable condition. The search and rescue operations at the site have nearly concluded.
In response to the tragedy, Changsha City promptly activated its emergency response protocols. A task force specifically for the “May 4” incident was established in Liuyang, mobilizing over 1,500 personnel for rescue, relief, and medical assistance efforts.
Multiple rounds of intensive search and rescue operations were conducted at the site, employing various methods to locate missing persons. The treatment of the injured, management of the post-incident situation, investigation of the cause, and cleanup efforts are all proceeding in an organized manner. Public safety officials have summoned eight suspects in connection with the serious accident.
