South Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A building collapse in the Saty Niketan area of South Delhi has left at least five people dead and several others injured. The incident occurred on September 6, 2026, when the structure, which included a basement and five floors, suddenly gave way.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered an FIR to be filed against the building’s owner. The Chief Minister’s Office announced on social media that Gupta visited the site and instructed for a magistrate’s inquiry into the collapse.
The CMO emphasized that those responsible for the incident will be held fully accountable and face the strictest legal consequences. Delhi Police Commissioner reported that a case has been registered at the South Campus police station against the alleged owner, Hariram, among others. The building, which served as a paying guest accommodation, was undergoing renovations on the ground floor, which may have contributed to the collapse.
Rescue teams utilized gas cutters and JCB machinery to cut through iron beams and clear debris, successfully rescuing 11 individuals trapped inside. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM, with most victims being students residing in the building, which had accommodations for around 40 people. It was noted that the building’s owner resides in Gurugram.
According to a statement from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), ten patients were brought to the JPNA Apex Trauma Centre following the collapse. Among them, four were declared dead upon arrival, and one succumbed to injuries later. Three patients remain hospitalized, with one requiring surgery for their injuries, while another with minor injuries has been discharged after observation.
The situation continues to develop as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
