Traffic Diversions Announced for Independence Day Celebrations in Chennai

Chennai, August 13: The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions and diversions for the Independence Day celebrations at Fort St. George on August 15. Major roads including Kamarajar Salai and Rajaji Salai will be affected.

Traffic will be halted for regular vehicles on Kamarajar Salai between the Labour Statue and the War Memorial. Similar restrictions will apply on Rajaji Salai, extending from the War Memorial to the northern part of the Reserve Bank subway.

Only vehicles with valid passes will be permitted on these routes. Drivers traveling from Kamarajar Salai to Rajaji Salai will need to turn at the Labour Statue and proceed via Valajah Road, Anna Salai, Muthuswami Bridge, Muthuswami Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram Junction, and North Fort Side Road.

Vehicles heading from Paris to Kamarajar Salai via Rajaji Salai and the Secretariat will be redirected through Paris Corner, North Fort Side Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram Junction, Muthuswami Road, Muthuswami Bridge, Anna Salai, and Valajah Road.

Those traveling from Anna Salai to Paris via Kodimara Salai must use Muthuswami Bridge, Muthuswami Road, Raja Annamalai Mandram Junction, and North Fort Side Road.

Vehicles approaching Kamarajar Salai from Muthuswami Bridge via Kodimara Salai will instead need to take Anna Salai and Valajah Road.

Separate arrangements have been made for invited guests. Vehicles with red and purple passes can access Rajaji Salai until 8:30 AM, drop off passengers near the Secretariat entrance, and park in designated areas within the Fort Complex.

After 8:30 AM, these vehicles must reach the Secretariat’s outer entrance via the War Memorial, Kodimara Salai, Muthuswami Bridge, Muthuswami Road, North Fort Side Road, Paris Junction, and the Reserve Bank subway. They will then park in the PWD parking area in front of the Secretariat.

Individuals with blue and pink passes must follow designated routes, drop off passengers near the Secretariat’s outer entrance, and park in the same PWD facility.

Vehicles without valid passes will not be allowed beyond restricted points. Passengers must disembark near the War Memorial, while vehicles should park inside the Island Grounds.

The police have advised drivers to plan their journeys accordingly, adhere to the diversions, and cooperate with traffic personnel stationed in the area.
