TMC delegation meets Shah, demands removal of West Bengal Governor

New Delhi, March 24 : Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay met Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday and submitted a memorandum urging him to remove the Governor of West Bengal. Bandyopadhyay, along with a delegation of Trinamool Congress MPs met the Home Minister in his office in the Parliament House, and submitted the memorandum. Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien was also present along with other TMC MPs. The meeting came in the backdrop of the Birbhum incident where several people were charred to death when some houses were set on fire. The alegedly happened violence happened in retaliation of the murder of a deputy sarpanch who was with the TMC. “We have said that Governor of West Bengal should be removed, in view of the Rampurhat, Birbhum incident. What the Governor is doing is against the constitutional system… Parliamentary democracy is under threat. We gave him a memorandum demanding his withdrawal,” Bandyopadhyay told the media after the meeting. He said the letter by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanding removal of Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. He also said a report on the incident would be sent by the state to the center. Asked about the reply of the Home Minister, Bandyopadhyay said, “he told us we are not looking for a political angle in the matter… there is no political angle in this incident”. At least eight people were killed in Rampurhat of Birbhum district in West Bengal after a mob set several house on fire following the murder of Bhadu Sheikh, a deputy pradhan who was with the TMC.
