New Delhi, May 2: Political rhetoric has intensified amid the West Bengal elections, focusing on re-polling and electoral transparency. BJP leaders from various regions have targeted the Trinamool Congress (TMC), backing the Election Commission’s decisions.
In Delhi, BJP spokesperson Shah Nawaz Hussain stated, “The TMC has already lost the elections; it is evident. Now they are just putting on a show. One moment they are breaking into strong rooms, and the next, they are knocking on the doors of the court.”
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also launched a sharp attack on the TMC. He remarked, “A clear pattern is emerging in the West Bengal elections. When they lose, they complain, and when they win, they forget the issues. Those who once showed courage are now making excuses. They accuse us of attacking machines, turning the strong room into an issue, and even approaching the Election Commission.”
Meanwhile, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh government minister Sanjay Nishad commented on the re-polling, saying, “Conducting elections is the responsibility of the state government, but ensuring free and fair elections is the prerogative of the Election Commission. Where irregularities are found, re-polling is part of the rules. There is no need to object to this.”
In Kolkata, BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Rahul Sinha made serious allegations. He claimed, “In the seats where there were allegations of tampering with EVMs, it was reported that cameras were turned away and stickers were secretly placed on the EVMs to ensure votes only went to the TMC. This is why the Election Commission decided to conduct re-polling at all booths, which is the right step.”
It is noteworthy that elections were held for 152 seats in the first phase and for 142 seats in the second phase. The counting of votes will take place on May 4, and the election results will be announced.
