Kolkata, May 11: West Bengal police have arrested three individuals from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in connection with the murder of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant, Chandranath Rath. One suspect hails from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, while the other two are from Bihar.
According to reports, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case brought the suspects to Kolkata shortly after their arrest. They are expected to be presented in Barasat Court on Monday. The Bihar suspects have been identified as Mayank Raj Mishra and Vicky Maurya, while the individual from Ballia is named Raj Singh.
Additionally, the SIT has conducted raids in Uttar Pradesh, detaining three more individuals for questioning. Authorities are hopeful that these inquiries will reveal the full conspiracy behind the murder.
The suspects were apprehended after one of them made an online payment via UPI at a toll plaza, which helped police trace their location. Interrogations are ongoing to determine their involvement in the crime.
Chandranath Rath was shot on May 6 and sustained severe injuries. Local residents rushed him to a nearby nursing home, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. The murder has been attributed to alleged TMC workers.
In response to Rath’s murder, West Bengal police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that includes officers from the Special Task Force (STF) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Investigators traveled to Uttar Pradesh in search of leads, aiming to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
