New Delhi, August 3: Security agencies in Delhi sprang into action on Monday ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. This was in response to a bomb threat emailed to the Mayor’s Office, which warned of multiple explosions at the iconic Red Fort on August 15.
Upon receiving the bomb threat, the Mayor’s Office promptly alerted the Delhi Police and other security agencies.
An official reported that following the alert, police officers, bomb disposal units, and additional security teams arrived at the Red Fort to conduct a thorough search of the area.
Sources from the Delhi Police indicated that security in the vicinity was heightened immediately after the threat was received, and an investigation was launched.
Authorities are currently working to identify the sender of the email and trace its origin.
A similar bomb threat targeting the Red Fort was reported on July 11, which led to extensive security measures. Following a comprehensive search, that threat was deemed false.
According to the Delhi Police, last month’s threat was linked to a phone call received by the Mumbai Police Control Room. The caller claimed that the Red Fort would be blown up. Mumbai Police quickly relayed this information to the Delhi Police Control Room, prompting the North District Police to initiate security measures.
After a detailed inspection of the area, police officials found no suspicious objects or explosive materials, confirming that the threat was unfounded.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, marking the country’s 80th Independence Day.
The government has invited citizens to share their thoughts, inputs, and policy suggestions for PM Modi’s upcoming address. The deadline for public submissions on the MyGov portal is August 12.
