Srinagar, May 2: In a significant operation, the Pulwama police in Jammu and Kashmir have arrested an associate of a terrorist. The arrest led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials.
On Saturday, authorities reported that the arrest took place during a joint operation involving the 44 Rashtriya Rifles, the 183 Battalion of the CRPF, and local police in the Rajpora area.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Umar Malik, a resident of Kachhipora Kasbeyar in Pulwama district. A search of his premises uncovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including a pistol, a magazine, two cartridges, and two hand grenades.
A police official stated that a case has been registered under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at the Rajpora police station, and further investigations are ongoing.
The Jammu and Kashmir police, along with security forces, are intensifying their efforts against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers. This revised strategy aims to target the entire support system for terrorism in the union territory, rather than focusing solely on armed terrorists.
Additionally, drug traffickers, narcotics dealers, and those involved in hawala money rackets are also under the watch of security forces. It is believed that the funds generated from these illegal activities are ultimately used to promote terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Police and security forces are conducting anti-terrorism operations in the interior regions. These operations are being carried out by the army along the Line of Control (LoC) and by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the International Border (IB).
