Beijing, May 5: Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated following America’s insistence on launching a so-called operation to free vessels trapped in the Hormuz Strait.
On May 4, the Iranian military issued a statement indicating that a U.S. destroyer attempted to approach the Hormuz Strait. After ignoring initial warnings, the Iranian navy fired shots as a warning to the enemy vessel.
On the same day, the U.S. military reported that as part of the first phase of the operation to rescue the stranded ships, two U.S.-flagged commercial vessels successfully passed through the Hormuz Strait.
In the morning of May 4, international crude oil futures surged by over 5%, influenced by rumors that an Iranian missile had struck a U.S. Navy warship. However, this increase later receded.
