Tensions Erupt in Sikar After Congress Victory in Local Elections
Violence broke out in Sikar following Congresss win in local elections, with clashes reported in Ward 17.

Sikar, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Tensions flared in Sikar shortly after the results of the municipal elections were announced on September 14. Supporters of the Congress party clashed with backers of an independent candidate in Ward 17, leading to incidents of stone-pelting and injuries among several individuals.
The Congress emerged as the dominant force in the elections, securing 38 out of 65 wards, thereby achieving a clear majority. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 22 wards, while independent candidates claimed four seats, and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) managed to secure one ward.
The outcome in Ward 17 was particularly significant, as Congress candidate Tasleem defeated independent contender Arsheen. However, the announcement of the results sparked immediate confrontations between the two factions, resulting in violence.
In response to the clashes, police arrived on the scene and detained several individuals. Authorities have since managed to restore order and are taking further action to prevent escalation. The Congress party’s strong performance positions it favorably for forming the municipal board, yet the violence in Ward 17 has raised concerns about post-election tensions between rival groups. Police are monitoring the area to ensure stability.
Meanwhile, in Jodhpur, the counting of votes for a seat in Ward 50 was halted due to a reported technical malfunction with an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at a polling booth. The returning officer has sought guidance from the state election commission, and a decision regarding further action will be made based on the commission’s directives. A re-vote at the affected booth may be necessary.
Currently, election officials have paused the counting process for this seat. According to District Election Officer and Collector Sandesh Nayak, vote counting for 150 wards in Jaipur took place across 2,254 polling booths. Over 5,000 candidate agents were present during the counting, which was completed in 302 rounds. So far, the BJP has won 66 seats, while the Congress has secured 43, and independent candidates have achieved 13 seats.
