Hyderabad, April 17: The Telangana government is developing a policy to make electric vehicle (EV) charging points mandatory in the basements of apartment buildings.
Special Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, Naveen Mittal, announced that the department is in the process of formulating this policy.
The initiative aims to provide convenient charging options for residents and promote the use of EVs among urban dwellers. Mittal spoke during a review meeting on EV charging infrastructure held at the Secretariat on Friday.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao convened the review meeting, which included senior officials from various departments focusing on strategies to enhance electric vehicle infrastructure across the state.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasized the urgent need for the rapid adoption of electric vehicles in line with sustainable development goals and the transition to clean energy. He stressed that building a robust and comprehensive charging network is crucial to instill confidence among EV users and meet the growing demand for electric mobility.
He instructed officials to develop a comprehensive and visionary plan for establishing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, leveraging both government initiatives and private sector participation.
Highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts, he called for the creation of a seamless ecosystem that ensures accessibility, reliability, and efficiency of charging facilities in both urban and rural areas.
The Chief Secretary also directed the development of a centralized, real-time dashboard to map and monitor electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the state. This dashboard will serve as a vital tool for planning the deployment of charging stations, tracking progress, and ensuring transparency.
