Mumbai, May 8: Actress Tara Sharma frequently shares moments from her life on social media. On Thursday, she reminisced about the crime thriller film ‘Maharathi’ with a post on Instagram.
The shared images included behind-the-scenes shots featuring the film’s cast. Tara expressed that filming this movie was one of the most memorable experiences of her career. She wrote, “The shooting of this film was very interesting. It allowed me to learn from industry legends. It was a ‘mystery’ type film. The atmosphere on set was somewhat mysterious and eerie, and the sleepwalking scene was particularly special for me.”
She further mentioned, “The film featured renowned actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, the late Om Puri, Boman Irani, and Neha Dhupia. My character was inspired by a role originally played by the famous actress Swaroop Sampat in a play. The film’s popular song was sung by the well-known singer Shibani Kashyap.”
Tara also expressed her gratitude towards her former manager, who helped her land this powerful role. She concluded her post by saying, “Many who watched this film loved it. However, when it was released, the country was facing some unstable conditions, so it didn’t receive the attention it deserved.”
Released in 2008, ‘Maharathi’ was a suspense-crime thriller produced and directed by Paresh Rawal and Shivam Nair, respectively. The film is based on James Hadley Chase’s novel ‘There Is Always a Price Tag.’
In the film, a retired film director, Jay Singh Adenwala (Naseeruddin Shah), becomes distressed over his wife Mallika’s (Neha Dhupia) infidelity and ultimately takes his own life, challenging Mallika to prove it as murder to claim a 24 crore insurance payout. Tara Sharma played a crucial role as a mysterious ‘caretaker.’
