Chennai, August 7: Sangeeta, the wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, has withdrawn her divorce petition against him. The Chengalpattu district family court accepted Sangeeta’s request and closed the case.
Reports indicate that Vijay and Sangeeta had been living separately for personal reasons for some time. In December, Sangeeta filed a petition for divorce in the Chengalpattu family court.
The case had previously been heard three times. Given the high-profile nature of the couple and their security concerns, the court had excused both from appearing in person, allowing them to participate via video conferencing.
On Friday, when the case was up for hearing again, Vijay’s lawyer requested the court to postpone the proceedings, citing that Vijay was busy with the ongoing Tamil Nadu Assembly session and needed more time. However, Sangeeta’s legal team insisted on continuing the hearing as scheduled.
After listening to both sides, the court adjourned the case for an afternoon hearing. During this session, Sangeeta appeared before Family Court Judge Sujata via video conferencing. She presented her case and spoke for over 15 minutes.
Following Sangeeta’s statement, the court accepted her request to withdraw the divorce petition. Consequently, the legal proceedings initiated against Vijay have come to an end.
According to court sources, the case has been closed after Sangeeta’s withdrawal. However, neither Vijay nor Sangeeta has issued an official statement regarding the reasons behind the withdrawal.
Vijay and Sangeeta’s relationship spans nearly three decades. They married on August 25, 1999, in Chennai, adhering to traditional Hindu customs. Their marriage was interfaith, and they have two children: a son born on August 26, 2000, and a daughter born in 2005.
