Chennai, 8 December. Several districts in Tamil Nadu are experiencing cool weather due to rainfall. On Monday and Tuesday, some parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to witness light rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has provided this update. The weather department has advised the public, especially farmers, fishermen, and outdoor workers, to take necessary precautions.
On Monday morning, many districts, particularly during afternoon and evening hours, are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. The department has attributed this change in weather to local atmospheric instability combined with moisture from the Bay of Bengal, creating favourable conditions for thunderstorms.
Meteorologists have stated that interior districts of Tamil Nadu, including parts of the Cauvery delta, western regions, and southern districts, may experience intermittent showers and occasional lightning. Puducherry and nearby coastal areas can expect light to moderate rain with strong winds.
Due to cloud cover and rain, maximum temperatures are expected to be slightly below normal in most areas, while minimum temperatures will remain nearly steady. The weather department has warned against taking shelter under trees during storms and urged residents in low-lying areas to stay alert for local waterlogging.
Fishermen have been advised to check local weather updates before venturing into the sea, as rough conditions and strong winds may occur during the storm.
In recent days, brief spells of rain across different parts of Tamil Nadu have provided some relief from drought, although short-term traffic disruptions were reported in urban areas.
The rainfall expected over the next 48 hours is likely to benefit standing crops, particularly paddy and horticultural produce, which have been affected by fluctuating moisture levels in recent weeks.
However, agricultural officials have cautioned farmers to ensure proper drainage to prevent damage caused by waterlogging.
