New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, has put forward recommendations for new judicial appointments in various High Courts, including Delhi, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, and Jharkhand.
During a meeting on September 10, 2026, the Collegium endorsed the appointments of Usha Rani, K.S. Bharat Kumar, and Nerale Veerabhadrayya Bhavani as judges of the Karnataka High Court.
Additionally, the Collegium recommended eight judicial officers for judgeships in the Delhi High Court. The proposed candidates include Gurvinder Pal Singh, Nivedita Anil Sharma, Nisha Sahay Saxena, Sanjay Sharma-I, Bharat Parashar, Dr. Aditi Chaudhary, Dinesh Bhatt, and Arun Bhardwaj.
A statement released on the Supreme Court’s website confirmed that these recommendations were approved during the meeting.
Furthermore, the Collegium has also approved the appointment of judicial officer Yash Paul Borni as a judge for the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. In Jharkhand, the Collegium recommended judicial officers Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar, and Ram Sharma for judgeships.
According to the ‘Memorandum of Procedure’ related to High Court judge appointments, the proposal starts with the Chief Justice of the relevant High Court consulting the two senior-most judges. The Chief Justice then forwards the recommendation to the Chief Minister, who sends it to the Governor. The Governor subsequently forwards the proposal, along with relevant documents, to the Union Minister of Law and Justice.
The central government reviews the proposal and presents it to the Chief Justice of India, who consults with senior judges of the Supreme Court before finalizing the recommendation.
Once approved by the Collegium, the recommendation is sent to the central government. Appointments become effective after the President signs the appointment warrants and the Ministry of Justice issues a notification in the Gazette of India.
