Bhopal, May 6: The Deputy Chief Minister, Rajendra Shukla, met with a delegation from AIIMS Bhopal at the ministry to discuss the expansion and strengthening of organ transplant activities in the state.
He emphasized that the state government is making continuous efforts to promote organ transplant activities. Organ donors are being honored with a ‘Guard of Honor,’ and their families are publicly recognized on January 26 and August 15. He stated that organ donation can bring new hope to many lives.
Deputy Chief Minister Shukla mentioned that ongoing awareness campaigns, workshops, and dialogue programs are being organized to increase public awareness about organ donation, encouraging more people to participate in this noble cause. The state government welcomes AIIMS’s technical support and suggestions in the field of organ transplantation. He also praised the organ transplant services and awareness activities conducted by AIIMS so far and honored the entire delegation, including Director Prof. Dr. Madhabanand Kar.
The meeting discussed increasing the kidney transplant package under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and including heart and lung transplants. The possibilities for further strengthening transplant services were also considered. Discussions were held on enhancing the identification and rapid referral system for potential brain-dead donors to make the organ procurement process more effective.
A suggestion was made to develop a shared digital platform to establish better coordination among government hospitals and medical colleges in the state, streamlining the organ procurement and transplantation process. Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla assured that prompt action would be taken on the suggestions received to strengthen the organ transplant process and enhance awareness activities.
The meeting also covered the expansion of modern techniques in transplant surgery, particularly robotic surgery, to ensure improved quality and success rates of treatments. The AIIMS team presented information on the progress made in heart and kidney transplants, the expansion of lung transplant services, and other technical aspects.
Deputy Chief Minister Shukla assured full support from the state government for the expansion of these services. The meeting was attended by AIIMS Director Prof. Dr. Madhabanand Kar, Deputy Director Sandesh Kumar Jain, Medical Superintendent Dr. Vikas Gupta, and members of the organ transplant team.
