Strengthening India-Netherlands Ties: PM Modis Visit to Boost Semiconductor, Technology, and Green Energy Cooperation

New Delhi, May 15: India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Kumar Tuhin, has emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit. He noted that this marks the first high-level dialogue following the formation of a new government in the Netherlands. The leaders of both nations are expected to review progress in various sectors and chart a new course to strengthen their relationship.

In an interview, Ambassador Tuhin highlighted the robust ties between India and the Netherlands. The collaboration spans health, trade, water, and agriculture. He expressed hope that this visit will help identify key areas for further enhancing their relationship.

On the topic of semiconductors, Tuhin stated that it is a crucial sector for both countries. The Indian government has taken significant steps in this regard. Recently, an AI summit was held in India, attended by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Prior to that, a semiconductor exhibition took place in India, attracting several Dutch companies. This indicates a promising opportunity for both nations to collaborate in this field.

Tuhin mentioned that the India-Netherlands partnership is vital in areas such as trade, technology, semiconductors, and clean energy. The Netherlands is one of India’s key trading partners and serves as a gateway to Europe. With an India-EU free trade agreement expected by the end of this year, the Netherlands’ role will become even more critical.

During the visit, discussions are anticipated to focus on new technologies, semiconductors, and clean energy, where tangible progress and new collaborations could emerge.

Regarding agreements or MOUs, Tuhin noted that high-level visits typically cover various aspects of the relationship, including trade and investment, technology, education, maritime cooperation, and global issues. It is currently difficult to predict specific agreements, as this will depend on the outcomes of the discussions between the two leaders. Many Dutch companies are already operating in India, and Indian professionals are also working in the Netherlands. This creates opportunities not only for increased investment but also for projects, capacity building, and institutional partnerships.

The ambassador pointed out that Dutch companies can play a significant role in India’s manufacturing and green energy goals. Both countries are already collaborating on platforms like the International Solar Alliance and the Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Coalition. Given this strong foundation, there is ample scope for further cooperation.

He also noted that the Indian community residing in the Netherlands plays a crucial role in strengthening the ties between the two nations. It is one of the largest Indian communities in Europe. The members are enthusiastic about PM Modi’s visit and are active in professional sectors, local economies, and politics, promoting Indian culture. They also facilitate the exchange of Dutch culture and expertise to India, acting as a strong bridge between the two countries. Education and innovation are also key areas of collaboration, with several Indian and Dutch institutions already connected.
