
Adelaide, 18 December. The third Ashes Test between Australia and England is underway in Adelaide. At the close of the second day, England have scored 213 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their first innings. England captain Ben Stokes is unbeaten on 45, while Jofra Archer supports him with 30 runs. Together, they have added 45 runs for the ninth wicket.
Earlier, England’s batting once again struggled as the top order failed to build significant partnerships. Ben Duckett scored 29, Joe Root made 19, Harry Brook contributed 45, and Jamie Smith added 22 runs, but none converted their starts into a big score.
England had lost eight wickets for 168 runs before Stokes and Archer steadied the innings. Stokes has been the lone batsman to show resilience against the Australian bowling attack, currently batting on 45 runs off 151 balls. Archer has scored 30 runs from 48 balls. Their ninth-wicket partnership stands at 45 runs.
England remain 158 runs behind Australia’s first innings total.
For Australia, captain Pat Cummins took three wickets, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon claimed two wickets each, and Cameron Green took one wicket.
Australia had declared their first innings at 371 runs. Mitchell Starc scored 54 before being dismissed, while Scott Boland remained not out on 14. On the opening day, Alex Carey scored 106 and Usman Khawaja made 82 runs.
From England’s bowling side, Jofra Archer took five wickets, Brydon Carse and Will Jacks took two wickets each, and Josh Tong claimed one wicket.
