BJP Criticizes Jharkhand Government Over Rape Incident at Police Station
The BJP in Jharkhand condemns the government after a woman was raped at a police station, calling for justice and accountability.

Ranchi, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Jharkhand government following a disturbing incident where a woman was raped at the Gamharia police station in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Dr. Neera Yadav, a former minister and BJP MLA from Koderma, addressed a press conference at the party’s state office on Sunday, expressing deep concern over the safety of women in the state.
Yadav highlighted that the incident occurred when a woman, seeking help regarding domestic abuse and family disputes, went to the police station. Expecting safety within the police premises, she stayed overnight. However, it is alleged that the very police officer responsible for her protection assaulted her.
“This incident has severely undermined public trust in the police,” Yadav stated. She emphasized that the issue extends beyond a single woman’s suffering; it questions the accountability of the entire police system and the state government. Yadav insisted that the government must ensure swift justice for the victim and clarify to the public how law enforcement will be upheld and women’s safety guaranteed.
She also raised concerns about the vacancy in the state’s Women’s Commission, which has remained unfilled for six years. Yadav accused the government of emboldening criminals during its tenure, citing the increasing incidents of rape and murder as alarming. Furthermore, she criticized the administration for issues related to illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and gun violence, warning that the state’s social harmony and mutual trust are deteriorating.
In response to the incident, BJP workers plan to burn effigies of the Chief Minister across all 595 organizational units in the state on Sunday evening. The press conference also featured the presence of Seema Singh, the state president of the BJP Women’s Wing, and state spokesperson Rafia Naz.
