
New Chandigarh, 11 December. South Africa defeated India by 51 runs in the second T20 match played at Maharaj Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullapur. With this victory, the visiting team has equalised the five-match series 1-1.
After losing the toss, South Africa chose to bat and scored 213 runs for 4 wickets in the allotted overs. Quinton de Kock shared a 38-run partnership in 4.1 overs with Reeza Hendricks, who scored 8 runs off 10 balls before getting out.
Quinton de Kock then put on 83 runs for the second wicket with captain Aiden Markram in 47 balls, taking the team to 121. Markram scored 29 runs before being dismissed, while de Kock played a brilliant innings of 90 runs off 46 balls, including 7 sixes and 5 fours.
By 16.1 overs, South Africa had reached 160 for 4 wickets. Donovan Ferreira (not out 30) and David Miller (not out 20) then added an unbroken 53 runs in 23 balls for the fifth wicket, helping the team post a huge total.
For India, Varun Chakravarthy took 2 wickets and Axar Patel claimed 1 wicket. Arshdeep Singh, however, recorded an unwanted record by bowling 13 balls in a single over, equalling the number one spot jointly with Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq.
In response, India were bowled out for 162 runs in 19.1 overs. The team lost 4 wickets by the time the score reached 67. Tilak Varma steadied the innings by sharing a 51-run partnership with Hardik Pandya for the fifth wicket.
Pandya scored 20 runs before getting out, after which Tilak Varma added 39 runs with Jitesh Sharma but could not lead the team to victory. Jitesh scored 27 runs before dismissal, while Tilak Varma made 62 runs off 34 balls, including 5 sixes and 2 fours.
On the bowling side, Ottniel Bartman took 4 wickets for 24 runs. Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Lutho Sipamla took 2 wickets each.
India had won the first ODI match against South Africa in Cuttack by 101 runs. The third match of the five-match series will be played on 14 December in Dharamshala.
