Shahbaz Sharif Invites Representatives to Islamabad for Iran-US Ceasefire Talks

New Delhi, April 8: Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has responded to the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He has invited representatives from both countries to Islamabad. Sharif expressed hope that the “Islamabad Talks” will successfully lead to lasting peace.

The ceasefire between the US and Iran is set for two weeks, with both nations officially announcing the truce following mutual agreement. Pakistan is playing the role of mediator in this situation.

Expressing his delight, Sharif took to social media platform ‘X’ to state, “The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other locations. This ceasefire will be implemented ‘immediately.’”

Sharif further stated, “I welcome this step and express my deep gratitude to the leadership of both countries. Additionally, I invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, for further negotiations aimed at reaching a decisive agreement to resolve all disputes.”

In his post, PM Shahbaz noted that both sides have demonstrated exceptional wisdom and understanding, remaining constructively engaged with the aim of promoting peace and stability. He expressed hope that the “Islamabad Talks” will achieve lasting peace and that more positive news will follow in the coming days.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi mentioned a ten-point proposal during a statement regarding the ceasefire. He also indicated that if attacks against Iran cease, their armed forces would halt their defensive operations. Araghchi added that coordination with Iran’s armed forces over the two-week period would focus on addressing technical shortcomings and ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
