Seoul: Samsung Electronics announced on Wednesday that its upcoming Galaxy smartphones will include a new inbuilt privacy feature designed to protect users’ on-screen information from prying eyes. This innovation eliminates the need for additional screen films or layers to maintain privacy.
The South Korean tech giant explained that the feature allows users to adjust the display’s visibility settings according to their preference, effectively preventing shoulder surfing – a common issue where people nearby can glance at sensitive information on the screen. Samsung confirmed that this functionality will soon be incorporated into its Galaxy phone series.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung plans to host a special launch event in February for the Galaxy S26 smartphone. Sources indicate that the new privacy feature is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 Ultra model.
In an official statement, Samsung highlighted that the feature offers various options to modify screen visibility, enabling users to control how much others can see on their display. Additionally, the privacy settings can be customized for different apps, giving users flexible control over their data security.
The company revealed that developing this feature took over five years, involving extensive engineering, testing, and iterative improvements. Samsung conducted thorough research to understand user behaviour, privacy concerns, and everyday security needs to create this advanced protection.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has also launched the Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition. This special edition phone includes features tailored to enhance the experience of athletes participating in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games.
The device will be provided to nearly 3,800 athletes from around 90 countries competing in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics, scheduled to begin on 6 February in Italy. The design of the phone draws inspiration from Italy’s blue colour and the spirit of unity and sportsmanship symbolised by the Olympic Games.
The golden metal frame of the Galaxy Z Flip7 Olympic Edition represents athletes’ aspirations for victory and the pursuit of excellence, reflecting Samsung’s commitment to innovation and quality.
Athletes will benefit from advanced features such as a translation app and the Galaxy Athlete Card, facilitating easy information sharing. Samsung will also organise a ‘Victory Selfie’ event, allowing medal-winning athletes to take selfies on stage.
Professional photographers will use the Galaxy S25 Ultra smartphone to capture images of approximately 490 athletes who have consented to be photographed during the event.
