Samajwadi Party Demands Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Amid Allegations of Misconduct

Azamgarh, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Samajwadi Party (SP) has ramped up its protests against the Election Commission, calling for the dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. SP MP Dharmendra Yadav announced demonstrations spanning from Azamgarh to Delhi, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) joining the cause with a protest scheduled for October 9 in Lucknow.

Yadav expressed deep distrust in the Election Commission, stating, “The entire nation has lost faith in the Election Commission. It has misled the public and political parties alike. Now, it is even using the name of the Supreme Court to manipulate votes. This is an act of treason against the people.”

He noted that the SP, under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, is actively protesting in Delhi while also mobilizing supporters at the district level. On Wednesday, Yadav urged all citizens and senior leaders in Azamgarh to join the struggle.

The MP emphasized the need for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, accusing him of creating a toxic atmosphere and eroding public trust. He criticized the commission for modifying Form-6 without parliamentary approval, asserting that such changes were made unilaterally and disregarded the opinions of other election commissioners.

Yadav warned that the public would demand accountability, stating, “Whether time is granted or not, the people will insist on the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. That’s why we were in front of Parliament on Tuesday, and today we are on the streets of Azamgarh. Citizens across the country are joining this movement.”

SP spokesperson Udayveer Singh stressed the importance of the Election Commission’s credibility for democracy, stating that trust in the electoral process is essential for both central and state governments to represent the people’s will. He remarked that the integrity of these institutions is under threat, not from the opposition, but from the Election Commission itself, as highlighted by the concerns of its own members.

He urged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take this matter seriously, given that it appointed all three election commissioners.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh added that if the integrity of the electoral process is compromised, Gyanesh Kumar should face legal consequences. He called for the annulment of elections in states like Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana, where irregularities have been reported.
