Glasgow, August 1: Indian boxer Sachin Siwach secured the gold medal in the men’s 60 kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games 2026. He achieved this remarkable feat by narrowly defeating Namibia’s Tryagain Morne Ndevelo with a close split decision of 3-2 in the finals held on Saturday.
In one of the toughest matches of the boxing competition, Sachin displayed remarkable composure and strategic discipline to overcome his Namibian opponent. The intensity of the bout was evident from the judges’ scorecards, with three judges declaring Sachin the winner while two favored Ndevelo.
Sachin started strong, responding effectively to every punch thrown by his rival throughout the three rounds. The match remained tightly contested until the final bell, but Sachin maintained his composure under pressure, successfully impressing most of the judges.
His victory further solidifies India’s dominance in Commonwealth Games boxing, as Indian boxers once again showcased exceptional performances on a grand stage. With the boxing competition reaching its final stages, this gold medal is expected to enhance India’s medal tally.
Sachin’s gold is one of eight medals (six golds and two silvers) won by India in boxing on Saturday. Alongside Sachin, boxers Arundhati, Priya, Sakshi, Preeti, and Jasmin also secured gold medals, while Lovlina and Jadumani Singh claimed silver medals.
This outstanding success in boxing has propelled India forward. Additionally, a 1-2 finish in men’s shot put F57 and a bronze medal in judo have placed India fourth in the medal tally, bringing the total to 35 medals. India has so far won 11 gold, 16 silver, and eight bronze medals. There is hope for more golds in boxing, as a total of 10 Indian boxers have qualified for the finals.
