Russia Commits to Strengthening Ties with North Korea

Russia reaffirms its commitment to enhancing relations with North Korea during a diplomatic event in Pyongyang.

New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Russia has reiterated its commitment to strengthening relations with North Korea. This announcement comes during a ceremony in Pyongyang marking the 78th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Russian officials emphasized the need to broaden their bilateral partnership.

According to North Korea’s state news agency, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Russian Ambassador Andrei Podleshev hosted a welcoming ceremony at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club in Pyongyang on Wednesday. The event was attended by North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Jong-kyu.

This was Podleshev’s first welcoming ceremony since assuming his post in late September, as reported by the Yonhap News Agency citing KCNA.

Podleshev described the relationship between Russia and North Korea as exemplary, stating that it is built on principles of complete equality and mutual respect. He referred to the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed in June 2024 as the legal foundation for their bilateral relations. This treaty was part of an agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The ambassador noted that this treaty has elevated cooperation between the two countries to a new qualitative level and has established high standards for future strengthening of ties.

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Jong-kyu expressed North Korea’s unwavering policy of expanding traditional friendship and cooperation with Russia. He pledged to make every effort to enhance strategic and tactical collaboration between the two nations.

Speakers at the ceremony highlighted their shared goals, asserting that their partnership would succeed in building powerful nations and promoting the welfare of their peoples. They described the alliance as one forged in blood and destined to endure.

Additionally, a delegation from Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently visiting Pyongyang. Led by Deputy Chief D.V. Sargienko, this delegation also participated in the ceremony.

Relations between Russia and North Korea have strengthened significantly since the signing of the strategic partnership treaty in June 2024, which includes provisions for mutual defense. The growing military and strategic cooperation between the two countries is under international scrutiny.
