Rhea Chakraborty Reflects on Trauma from Sushant Singh Rajput Case

Mumbai, June 25: Actress Rhea Chakraborty recently opened up about the challenging period following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. During an appearance on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s chat show “Double Date,” she discussed her mental state, fears, and stress alongside her brother, Showik Chakraborty.

In 2020, Rhea and Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with a drug case that emerged during the investigation into Sushant’s death. This incident sparked widespread discussion across the country.

The siblings shared how their lives changed drastically after that event. Rhea expressed that the mental stress, fear, and societal pressure were overwhelming, making it difficult to live normally. The experiences they endured left a lasting impact on them.

Showik reflected on his previous life, stating, “At one point, I was living a completely different life. I dreamed of studying at prestigious business schools like IIM or Wharton, but suddenly everything changed. Life took a turn I never anticipated.”

He added, “Some events are beyond anyone’s comprehension, and I experienced that firsthand. A normal life turned into a crisis I never expected. It took me about four to five years to recover from this traumatic experience.”

Showik mentioned that he often recalls those moments, questioning why it all happened to him. He revealed that he suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), stating, “Even today, when the doorbell rings, I am reminded of those days. During that time, every small sound felt like a threat.”

When asked if she has fully recovered from the trauma, Rhea responded that such experiences never completely fade. “Trauma is not just confined to the mind; it remains in the body and emotions as well. I am slowly trying to regain my footing. I am working through therapy, but the pain never entirely disappears,” she said.

She emphasized that the experience was particularly frightening because it unfolded in the public eye. With the entire country and media watching, everyone formed opinions about them. Nevertheless, both siblings have gradually worked on themselves and are striving to move forward in life. The show “Double Date” is available for streaming on YouTube.
