Remembering Nana Patekar: Friends Share Fond Memories of a Legendary Actor

Friends and colleagues remember Nana Patekar, sharing heartfelt stories of his kindness and talent after his passing.

Mumbai, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : The late actor Nana Patekar will always be remembered for his impactful roles and memorable dialogues. Following the news of his passing, close friends and colleagues have come forward to share cherished memories of their time with him. Notable among them are photographer Atul Kasbekar, folk singer Malini Awasthi, and actor Mukesh Rishi.

Atul Kasbekar, a close friend of Patekar, recounted their long-standing relationship. “I have known Nana since I began my photography career. He viewed me as a local boy from Maharashtra aspiring to make a mark in photography. He consistently encouraged me and was always supportive,” he shared.

Kasbekar also recalled a touching anecdote. “Once, I had to go to Pune for a photo exhibition. Nana called to ask how many people were coming with me. When I arrived at his farmhouse with my team of eight to ten, he personally arranged for food to be cooked in his kitchen and served us all. I remember this fondly because, despite being a major star, he never made anyone around him feel small. Nana was an incredibly humble person, and I will miss him dearly.”

Malini Awasthi expressed her sorrow over Patekar’s death, calling him a remarkable individual. “Nana was not only a brilliant actor but also a wonderful human being. Throughout his extensive career, he gifted audiences with unforgettable films, characters, and dialogues. Many people remember his films just for his performances. He served the nation during the Kargil War and spent considerable time farming in his village near Pune. He was always ready to assist the villagers,” she stated.

Awasthi emphasized Patekar’s contributions, saying, “He used what he earned to help those in need and to support the growth of Marathi cinema. Despite the presence of many big stars when he started acting, he carved his own unique identity through his distinct style and talent.”

Actor Mukesh Rishi also shared his experiences working with Patekar. “Nana was an incredible actor, adept at playing diverse roles. His performances carried a unique intensity. We worked together on the film ‘Kohraam,’ which was shot in Jammu and Katra. Even after filming, he was approachable and interacted with everyone like an ordinary person,” Rishi recalled.

He shared a personal memory, saying, “Nana would wish everyone happy birthdays. Once, he gifted me 100 rupees for my birthday. My wife occasionally cooked for him, and when she mentioned making rajma, he joked that he would prepare it his way while she would do it hers. He had a way of making everyone feel special.”

Rishi concluded by noting Patekar’s professionalism and dedication. “Nana was serious about his work and punctual. He preferred to start filming on time and disliked wasting time. He took care of his health and preferred living in the countryside. He lived life on his own terms, valuing the memories he left behind over age or fame.”
