Record Voter Turnout Marks Historic Election Day in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, April 24: April 23, 2026, will be remembered as a historic day in Tamil Nadu politics. Voter turnout for the assembly elections reached an unprecedented 85%, breaking all previous records in the state’s electoral history.

Vijay, the leader of the Tamilga Vetri Katchi (TVK), expressed his joy and gratitude on social media. He noted that politics is no longer confined to a select few experienced individuals. Ordinary citizens, especially the youth and women, have taken charge of the political landscape. The calculations of those who previously limited politics to a privileged circle have been shattered by the public’s engagement.

Families arrived at polling stations in droves, often bringing young children along. The turnout resembled that of a temple festival, with many traveling from other states and even abroad, incurring significant expenses just to cast their votes. This overwhelming participation left many astonished. The party hailed these voters as true lovers of democracy and greeted them with folded hands in respect.

In his statement, Vijay emphasized that April 23 truly embodied the spirit of the “festival of elections” or “democratic celebration.” He declared that this is just the beginning, as the people of Tamil Nadu have collectively redefined electoral politics in the state.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of his family, especially acknowledging his youngest and dearest companion, whom he affectionately referred to as “Vijay Mama,” for guiding family members to the polls.

Vijay also extended his thanks to polling agents, party comrades, and administrators at all levels. He noted that those who previously mocked the party with comments like “What do you know about politics?” or “How will you survive?” have been answered through the hard work of party activists. He also thanked family members who provided strong support to party comrades.

He urged everyone to remain hopeful, stating that only good things lie ahead and victory is certain. The party believes that this record voter turnout has opened a new chapter in Tamil Nadu’s politics. The increasing participation of youth and women is a promising sign for the future.
