Ram Charan: From Bollywood Flops to Southern Stardom

Mumbai, March 27: Ram Charan, a superstar of South Indian cinema, has become a global icon, especially after his role in SS Rajamouli’s “RRR.” While he has delivered numerous blockbusters in the South, his journey in Bollywood has been less successful.

Born on March 27, 1985, in Chennai, Ram Charan’s story is one of hard work, family legacy, and triumph. He is the son of Chiranjeevi, a legendary actor in Telugu cinema. Despite his film lineage, Ram Charan chose to carve his own path, enrolling in an acting course rather than relying on his father’s name. He trained at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting School in Mumbai, which has produced many stars.

After mastering acting and dancing, Ram Charan made his debut in 2007 with the film “Chirutha,” earning the Best Male Debut award. However, it was the 2009 film “Magadheera,” directed by SS Rajamouli, that truly established his fame. In this film, he played a dual role, and it became one of the highest-grossing films in Telugu cinema.

Following this, he starred in several successful films such as “Orange,” “Racha,” “Naayak,” and “Yevadu.” His biggest turning point came in 2022 with “RRR,” where he appeared alongside Junior NTR. This film, made with a budget of ₹550 crores, grossed over ₹1,300 crores at the box office. The song “Naatu Naatu” from the film made history by winning an Oscar.

Reports indicate that Ram Charan spent 12 days shooting the song, enduring knee pain from continuous practice. The success of “RRR” catapulted him to Hollywood fame, with accolades for his acting, dancing, and screen presence. However, his experience in Bollywood has not been as favorable. In 2013, he starred in the remake of “Zanjeer” alongside Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt, but the film flopped miserably, failing to recover its budget.

Few know that Ram Charan is not just an actor but also a successful businessman. He has established several ventures, including an airline and a polo riding club. His family is deeply rooted in the film industry, with his uncles Pawan Kalyan and Nagendra Babu also being major stars in Telugu cinema. Additionally, Allu Arjun, the star of “Pushpa,” is his cousin. Ram Charan has two sisters, Sushmita and Sreeja, who prefer to stay out of the media spotlight.
