Mumbai, March 3: The DP World PGTI’s new professional golf league, the PGTI 72 League, has intensified as the race for the finals heats up. The tournament, held at the Classic Golf and Country Club in Nuh, now features four teams vying for a spot in the finals.
After the fourth round, Rajasthan Regal sits at the top with 39 points. The UP Prometheans follow closely in second place with 35 points. Both teams started the day with 32 points, but Rajasthan managed to secure a lead by the end of the day’s play. The upcoming final league match between these two teams promises to be thrilling.
Nava Raipur and Charminar Champions also have a solid chance to qualify for the finals, each with 31 points, just four points behind the UP Prometheans.
Rajasthan’s players delivered impressive performances. The duo of Chikaranappa S. and Dhruv Shyoran managed to draw a crucial match. Honey Baisoya showcased exceptional skill, scoring six birdies and one eagle. Alongside captain Amarjeet Singh Malik, they defeated their opponents, Prabhakaran and Michelle Ortolani, with a score of 4 and 3. Captain Ajitesh Sandhu also won his singles match, stating that the team must perform even better in the next match to secure their spot in the finals.
On the other hand, the UP Prometheans faced unexpected challenges against the Mumbai Aces, managing to add only three points. Captain Bhattacharya performed well with a long birdie putt but acknowledged the need for improved play against Rajasthan.
Both Nava Raipur and Charminar Champions remain in contention with 31 points each. Anant Singh Ahlawat from Nava Raipur remains an undefeated player.
In the points table, the Mumbai Aces stand fifth with 24 points, while Kolkata Classics sit at the bottom with 11 points. The final round of the league phase will take place on Tuesday, determining which two teams will advance to the finals.
