Rajasthan Heatwave Update: 14 Districts May See Rain and Thunderstorms, Heat Record Broken in Barmer

Jaipur . April 10, 2025 : Rajasthan is reeling under an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring beyond 46°C in several parts of the state. Barmer set a new 10-year temperature record on Tuesday, reaching a scorching 46.4°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave warnings for 22 districts today, even as 14 districts are likely to experience relief in the form of rain, thunder, and dust storms starting tomorrow.

Barmer Sizzles at 46.4°C, Hottest in a Decade

Barmer recorded the highest temperature in the state at 46.4°C, breaking its decade-old heat record. Other regions such as Jaisalmer (45°C), Bhilwara, and Chittorgarh also reported soaring temperatures. Even the state capital Jaipur wasn’t spared, with the mercury touching 42°C on Tuesday.

Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued for Heatwave

  • Orange Alert: 2 districts, due to severe heatwave conditions

  • Yellow Alert: 20 districts, for moderate heat and health risks

Residents are advised to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities.

IMD Forecast: Thunderstorms and Showers Ahead

Starting April 11, a change in weather is predicted for parts of Bharatpur, Bikaner, and Jaipur divisions, affecting 14 districts in total. The IMD forecasts include:

  • Cloud cover

  • Dust storms or thunderstorms

  • Light rainfall in isolated areas

This weather shift could bring temporary relief from the rising temperatures. However, by April 12, the heat is expected to return in full force.

Hot Nights Add to the Heatwave Woes

The heat isn’t just limited to the daytime. Rajasthan is now experiencing warm nights with minimum temperatures above 31°C. In Barmer, the nighttime low was 31.5°C, about 4.3°C above normal. Interestingly, this was hotter than Mount Abu’s daytime high of 32°C.
