New Delhi, March 6: Amid ongoing tensions in Iran and the Middle East, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday during the Raisina Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi.
This discussion comes in the wake of escalating conflicts in West Asia, which began on February 28 with joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran. The objective of these strikes was to undermine Tehran’s missile capabilities, military infrastructure, and its ambitions to become a nuclear power.
In the initial phase of the operation, several high-ranking Iranian leaders were killed, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. assets, regional capitals, and allied forces across the area.
The 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, a flagship conference focused on geopolitical and geo-economic issues, commenced on Thursday in New Delhi, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and strategic experts.
The Observer Research Foundation (ORF), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, organized this three-day conference. It invited heads of state, ministers, academics, industry leaders, think tank members, and media representatives to discuss global challenges.
During the Raisina Dialogue, Minister Jaishankar also met with Benjamin Haddad, a French politician focused on Europe, Niels Annen, State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Ngwaru Jumane Maghembe, Deputy Foreign Minister of Tanzania.
Additionally, he engaged with Robert Vas, founder and president of the GLOBSEC think tank, and Mark Leonard, co-founder and director of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).
The Raisina Dialogue is taking place from March 5 to 7 in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event on March 5, with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb attending as the chief guest and delivering a keynote address.
