Rahul Gandhi Urges Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister to Increase Teacher Recruitment

Bhopal, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has urged Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to increase the number of teaching positions available in the state. In a letter dated September 29, Gandhi highlighted concerns raised by job-seeking candidates during his recent visit to Indore.

Gandhi pointed out that a shortage of teachers in government schools is adversely affecting children’s education across the state. He noted that over 100,000 teaching positions remain vacant in Madhya Pradesh, which directly impacts the quality of education.

In his letter, Gandhi referenced the teacher recruitment process for 2025, which included 13,089 positions for Class Third and 10,800 for Class Second. However, he emphasized that candidates are demanding an increase in the number of vacancies available.

Many of these candidates have performed well in recruitment exams and are currently working as guest teachers. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of available positions, they have not been able to secure permanent jobs. Gandhi also raised concerns about candidates who have exceeded the age limit while waiting for recruitment opportunities.

He questioned the need for protests and hunger strikes among candidates seeking to have their demands met, alleging that instead of addressing their grievances, some have received notices from the government.

Gandhi requested that the Chief Minister withdraw these notices and take steps to fulfill the candidates’ demands. He also called for an immediate second round of promotions and counseling for Class Second and Class Third teacher recruitment.

According to Gandhi, the Madhya Pradesh Education Department has approved over 115,000 teaching positions, yet the current recruitment process is only filling around 15,000 of those roles.

This letter comes as the Congress party seeks to highlight issues related to education, employment, and recruitment while criticizing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state.

The state government’s response to Gandhi’s allegations was not immediately available. However, when Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda was asked about Gandhi’s letter regarding teacher recruitment and promotions, he stated he was unaware of its contents. “I have not seen the letter. I will speak on the matter only after reviewing it,” he said.

Last month, Gandhi also wrote to Yadav regarding the stalled appointments of OBC candidates under the state’s 27 percent reservation policy, referencing concerns raised during his recent “Students’ Voice” event in Indore.
