Qatar Airways Facilitates Return of 2,600 Indians Amid Middle East Tensions

New Delhi, March 18: Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Qatar Airways has significantly increased its flight operations to various cities in India, providing much-needed relief. On Wednesday, a large number of Indian citizens returned home through these flights.

The Indian Embassy in Qatar is actively assisting citizens and urging them to adhere to safety guidelines.

According to an advisory from the Indian Embassy, “On Wednesday, Qatar Airways operated nine flights to different cities in India. Approximately 2,600 Indian citizens traveled on these flights.” As previously stated by Qatar Airways, “Flight tickets can be booked via the Qatar Airways website, app, or through travel agents.”

The embassy noted that as more flights became available from Qatar to various Indian cities, there has been a steady decline in the number of phone calls and emails received at the control room. Nevertheless, the embassy continues to operate its control room on a 24/7 basis to address citizens’ questions and concerns through helplines and emails.

The embassy has urged the Indian community to fully comply with the guidelines and advisories issued by Qatari authorities. It is essential to follow precautionary measures during social events, including weddings and memorial services. Officials emphasized that such events should only be held in indoor halls and enclosed spaces to mitigate potential risks to public safety.

Despite the 19th day of escalating tensions in the Middle East, the situation continues to deteriorate. The embassy is working diligently to evacuate as many citizens as possible to safety.

On the same day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed to have eliminated the commander of Hamas’s naval unit in northern Gaza, Yunus Muhammad Hussein Aliyan, in an attack. Additionally, the IDF reported the death of another top Iranian leader in an airstrike.

The IDF claims that Aliyan was working to strengthen the brigade’s capabilities in Gaza and was plotting a significant attack that posed a risk to civilians.

The IDF posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Ismail Khatib played a crucial role during recent protests across Iran, which involved the arrest and killing of demonstrators. He also led activities against Israelis and Americans worldwide. Similarly, he acted against Iranian citizens during the Mahsa Amini protests (2022–2023).”
