Chandigarh, April 25: Following a significant split in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has requested a meeting with the President of India. Mann is upset over the departure of seven party MPs. Sources indicate that he aims to present his case regarding the recall of Punjab’s Rajya Sabha members during this meeting.
Reports suggest that Chief Minister Mann may meet with Punjab’s party legislators alongside the President. He plans to address the recall of Rajya Sabha members who have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The public rift within AAP became evident when Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, and Sandeep Pathak announced their exit from the party at a press conference. They declared their resignation from AAP and their decision to join the BJP on Friday. Chadha also named four other MPs, including Harbhajan, who left the AAP.
After the press conference, Chadha, Mittal, and Pathak officially joined the BJP at its office, where BJP National President Nitin Naveen welcomed them. Additionally, four other Rajya Sabha MPs—Harbhajan Singh, Swati Maliwal, Vikram Sahni, and Rajinder Gupta—were also welcomed into the party.
Chief Minister Mann condemned all MPs who left AAP. He stated, “We strongly denounce both those who leave the party and those who welcome them into their own.”
On Friday, Mann emphasized, “The party is bigger than any individual. The MPs who have left do not represent Punjab. When they found nothing against me, they attempted to break AAP. The BJP creates obstacles in other parties.”
He added, “Punjabis love everyone from the heart, but if someone betrays them, they never forget. The 6-7 AAP MPs who joined the BJP are not from Punjab. These individuals are traitors to Punjabis. They received seats without needing to campaign or address people’s issues on the streets. They went there only to save themselves. Now, there is no place for them there either, as they are with the BJP.”
