Kathua, May 4: In the Billawar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, a progressive farmer has successfully implemented a model of chemical-free farming using a high-tech polyhouse, benefiting from government schemes. This modern approach has significantly increased his income, making him an inspiration for local farmers.
Lokesh Sumbariya, the farmer in question, established the polyhouse with government assistance and began cultivating high-value crops inside it. He has focused on organic farming of in-demand vegetables such as yellow bell peppers, cucumbers, and beans. Notably, Lokesh emphasizes completely chemical-free farming, utilizing only organic fertilizers and steering clear of harmful pesticides.
In an interview with a news agency, Lokesh stated, “This initiative is not just about increasing income; it’s also about providing safe and healthy food to society. While most farmers still rely on traditional wheat and rice cultivation, we should shift towards modern and profitable farming practices.”
He explained that the polyhouse protects crops from weather impacts, allowing for year-round production and improved quality. Lokesh urged other farmers to embrace new technologies and take full advantage of various agricultural schemes offered by the government.
He added, “Government schemes are very beneficial, but many farmers fail to utilize them due to a lack of awareness.” Expressing gratitude towards both the central and state governments, Lokesh noted that such initiatives have provided small farmers with new direction and strength.
