Prime Minister Modis Norway Visit: A Key Step for Global Peace and Regional Issues

Oslo, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Norway on Monday as part of his five-nation tour. India’s Ambassador, Gloria Gangte, has emphasized the significance of this visit, stating it will strengthen India-Norway relations.

Ambassador Gangte mentioned, “The Prime Minister will arrive in Norway in the morning and head to the hotel, where hundreds of members of the Indian community will welcome him. A cultural program will also be presented by children from Norway and India.”

She noted that PM Modi’s visit will enhance trade, maritime relations, green technology, and investment. Additionally, discussions will focus on global peace, tensions in West Asia, and long-term strategic cooperation between India and Nordic countries.

“This is the Prime Minister’s first visit to Norway, occurring 43 years after the last prime ministerial visit from India. Various topics will be discussed during this trip. Both sides are considering how they can contribute to promoting global peace and resolving issues in different parts of the world,” Gangte added.

The Indian Ambassador highlighted that the agenda for this visit includes discussions not only on bilateral relations but also on regional issues. She pointed out that India and Nordic countries have always maintained strong ties, as evidenced by the upcoming third India-Nordic Summit, indicating great potential for future collaboration.

Gangte also mentioned, “India is the most populous country in the world. Therefore, Norway believes that India deserves to be a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.”

Regarding the current strongest pillars of cooperation between India and Norway, Gangte stated, “At present, the maritime sector is our strongest pillar. This is evidenced by the fact that approximately 10 percent of the orders for new ships from the Shipowners Association are being awarded to India.”
