Prime Minister Modi Remembers His Mother, Reflects on Personal Loss

New Delhi, August 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminisced about his mother during an event in Delhi on Wednesday. He expressed that he still feels her absence deeply.

While unveiling former President Ram Nath Kovind’s autobiography, “Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles,” Modi highlighted Kovind’s life challenges. In this context, he also paid tribute to his own mother.

“I have been fortunate that my mother lived for over a hundred years and continued to bless me. Yet, I still feel her absence today,” he stated.

Discussing Ram Nath Kovind’s life, Modi remarked that everyone has a nature, and people often credit themselves for their successes while blaming society for their struggles. However, when a heart is generous and imbued with Indian values, a person does not waste time pointing out societal flaws but focuses on its positive aspects. Such individuals consider society a partner in their success. Kovind’s autobiography and its title exemplify this sentiment.

Modi shared, “Ram Nath Kovind was born into a humble family in Kanpur Dehat. In his book, he recounts a day during the summer when a fire broke out in their home. His mother, setting aside her worries, tried to save their belongings. For a family like theirs, every item was crucial for raising children. Tragically, in her efforts, she perished in the fire. Imagine how traumatic such an event must have been at a young age. This could have broken anyone, but Kovind turned those hardships into strength. A neighbor stepped in to help raise him.”

The Prime Minister further noted, “Amidst struggles, Ram Nath Kovind chose education as a means to empower himself. He worked hard and did not let a lack of resources weaken him, ultimately reaching heights that many could not have imagined. He became the President of such a vast country as India. Even after attaining such a high position, Kovind’s humility and simplicity remained intact.”

He emphasized that Kovind had a strong sense of service to the nation. Working alongside Morarji Desai provided him with valuable lessons and a new path. From there, Kovind dedicated himself to politics and social service, making service his goal. His tenure in Parliament stands as a testament to his commitment.
