Kasugai, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Pranavi Urs made history at the 2026 Asian Games held in Kasugai, becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in individual stroke play golf. Over four days of competition at the Kasugai Country Club East Course, Urs delivered an impressive performance, finishing the event with a score of 15-under 265 after carding an even-par 70 on the final day.
In addition to her individual success, Urs played a crucial role in leading the women’s team to a silver medal, with a total score of 14-under 546.
Other Indian players, however, faced challenges. Aditi Ashok finished in 14th place, ending her tournament with a total score of 2-over 282 after a final round score of 3-under 67. Diksha Dagar tied for 23rd place, concluding with a total score of 12-over after a fourth-round score of 7-over par.
The silver medal in the team event was shared by China’s Yin Ruoning and Singapore’s Shannon Tan, who both finished at 14-under par. On the final day, Urs started with a three-stroke lead over Tan but stumbled on the third hole with a triple bogey, dropping her to second place momentarily.
Urs rebounded with three birdies on the sixth, tenth, and thirteenth holes, regaining her lead. She sealed her victory with an even-par score on the 18th hole, ensuring her place in history. The Indian women’s team celebrated their achievement, marking the first medal for India in women’s golf at the Asian Games.
As the final day unfolded, hopes were high for both Urs and the Indian women’s team. Urs was in a strong position, leading by nine strokes over Hong Kong’s Sophie Han, who was in fourth place. The pressure was palpable, especially with Aditi Ashok’s past experience, where she had lost her lead in the previous Asian Games.
Urs’s remarkable performance not only brought glory to herself but also elevated the status of women’s golf in India on an international stage.
