Johannesburg, April 18: Indian golfer Pranavi Urs has made a remarkable showing at the Joburg Ladies Open in South Africa, successfully qualifying for the weekend rounds. She is the only Indian player to make the cut in this tournament.
Pranavi showcased her skills in the first round, scoring an impressive 3-under 70. This strong performance positioned her well for the tournament. However, her second round saw a dip in form, where she scored 1-over 74. Despite this, she managed to reach the cut line, currently tied for 52nd place.
Her second round was a rollercoaster. She started strong, finishing the front nine at 1-under. However, she faced challenges on the back nine, making four bogeys against just two birdies. A bogey on the final hole put her position in jeopardy, but she narrowly succeeded in making the cut.
Unfortunately, the other Indian players did not fare as well. Tvesa Malik and Diksha Dagar both missed the cut by just one shot, scoring 72 and 73, respectively. Avani Prashant (75-74) and Hitaashi Bakshi (77-74) fell significantly behind and did not qualify.
On the leaderboard, France’s Kelsey Herbín and America’s Bryna Navarro are tied for first place, both at 11-under par. Herbín delivered an outstanding second round with a score of 6-under 67, making five birdies in the first seven holes to take the lead.
In third place is France’s Camila Chevalier, who played exceptionally well, scoring 7-under 66 without a single bogey, marking one of the best performances of the tournament so far. Meanwhile, weather conditions have also impacted the tournament, causing play to be suspended due to darkness, forcing several players to complete their rounds the following day.
