Political Tensions Rise Over Vande Mataram Controversy Between BJP and Congress

New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in New Delhi has become increasingly charged over the national song “Vande Mataram.” Tensions flared after BJP President Nitin Naveen made remarks about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a speech to party workers in Haldwani on Wednesday. Congress responded sharply, defending Gandhi while BJP leaders rallied behind their president’s comments.

Nitin Naveen referred to Rahul Gandhi as “Rahul Miyan,” claiming that his upbringing in foreign culture has left him unable to appreciate the significance of Indian traditions and the national song. He accused Congress of being driven by a “anti-national and chaotic mindset.”

In response, Congress leader Amar Singh suggested that Naveen should educate himself on the history of the national song, noting that it was officially adopted by the Congress Working Committee in 1936. Singh also criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asserting that the tricolor was not flown at its headquarters for 52 years.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari joined the fray, stating that while Congress leaders faced imprisonment and violence, those associated with the RSS were allegedly providing information to the British.

Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput emphasized that “Vande Mataram” is ingrained in their identity, asserting that they do not need to learn it from anyone.

In contrast, Bihar BJP President Sanjay Sarawagi backed Naveen’s comments, labeling them as a “bitter truth” about Congress. He accused Gandhi of failing to understand the importance of “Vande Mataram” due to his foreign education. Sarawagi also referenced a previous incident during Independence Day celebrations, where Congress leader Sonia Gandhi faced allegations of disrupting the full rendition of the national song.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam further criticized Congress, claiming it disrespects the national song and tarnishes India’s image abroad. He stated that the party’s actions have weakened its standing in the country.

It is noteworthy that in October 1937, the Congress Working Committee passed a historic resolution recommending the singing of only the first two stanzas of “Vande Mataram” at national events.
